Last Word: About as close to perfect as a cocktail can get, this drink predates prohibition and balances herbaceousness with sweetness and citrus. And it's wickedly easy to make.

How to make it:

3/4 ounce gin
3/4 ounce green Chartreuse
3/4 ounce maraschino liqueur
3/4 ounce lime juice
brandied cherry (optional)

Combine all ingredients in shaker with ice. Shake well and strain into a chilled coup. Garnish with cherry (optional).

Pro tip: This drink is made with classic equal parts, but you can play with the ratio to make it more or less boozy.
