2020 Domaine Philippe Viet, Beaujolais Villages, France

2020 Domaine Philippe Viet, Beaujolais Villages, France

$22.99

This Beaujolais-Villages is not your standard, broad-appeal Beaujolais expression, this entry level bottling from Philippe Viet is as much a distinctive expression of singular terroir as the rest of his portfolio. Vines for the Beaujolais-Villages average 50 years in age, and are grown organically at 500m elevation on the historical lieu-dit Py de Bulliat, in Cru Régnié. Py de Bulliat’s soil is made of granitic sands and gravel with variable proportions of clay. Analog treatment is the name of the game in the cellar, with whole bunch fermentation and no added sulfurs, 13 day maceration with only one gentle pressing afterwards. Elevage is continued for 8-10 months in egg shaped tank before bottling.
