A mix of Abouriou, Zinfandel, Colombard, Valdiguié, and Carignan. 100% of this fruit is drawn from the Ricetti Vineyard, where the vines are planted all together, a site in the Redwood Valley of Mendocino with which winemaker Rosalind Reynolds has a special relationship. Reynolds splits this wine up into two harvest passes—the earlier-ripening varieties, Abouriou \u0026amp; Zinfandel as well as some Colombard (for acidity) come in first and are given a 7-8 day maceration on the skins before being pressed off to stainless steel to finish fermentation. The second pick of the later-ripening varietals: Valdiguié, Carignan and Colombard are picked anywhere from 1-3 weeks later depending on the vintage. This pick was partially crushed, with half of the fruit left intact on the bottom of the tank to undergo carbonic fermentation. The goal with this style of fermentation was to extract much less tannin and produce a fruitier, lighter wine, as a counterbalance to the earlier, more tannic pick. After 5 days carbonic in tank, the partially fermented fruit pressed to stainless steel to finish primary fermentation. Once sugar-dry, the wine was racked to all neutral barriques to age for 5 months. In late February, these two field blend components were racked out of their barriques and blended just before bottling, to create one comprehensive Ricetti field blend. SO2: 20 ppm total. No other additions, unfined and unfiltered.
