Grapes have been crushed and fermented into wine in the Americas for half a millennium. From the centuries-old tradition of pipeño in southern Chile to the champagne-method sparkling hybrids in 19th-century New York, the story of American wine is deeper and more diverse than we realize. And a new generation of producers is unearthing that history to craft beverages of place that point to its future. We’ll taste three wines that retell the history of wine’s journey from its roots in the ancient world to its new American homes.
