The freshest Garnacha, always đŸ«¶

04/09/24

For the last two years we haven’t gotten enough of Les Pedreras' Garnacha. Luckily for us, their third vintage just dropped. To the uninitiated: imagine the refinement of Chñteau Rayas with the granitic verve of the Northern Rhone, wrapped around fresh mountain fruit.

More below about this exciting project and the current lineup in stock.

From our first taste in 2021, we knew there was something special happening here.

Winemakers/growers Bárbara Requejo Frutos and her husband Guzmán de la Parra are the first winery in Villanueva de Àvila, a remote mountain village that falls under (new-ish DO!) Gredos, just west of Madrid.

Here (in perhaps the highest site for Grenache, anywhere) Garnacha gets the ultimate high elevation combination of elegance and power; and, for BĂĄrbara and GuzmĂĄn, a clarity of fruit that makes the wine irresistible.

BĂĄrbara recently visited us on Fulton St to taste through the newest release, and it's as good as ever.

'22 'Burbujas de Arquitón' Rosado Pet Nat $40 →
Garnacha is destemmed and pressed directly, fermented with native yeasts and then bottled before the fermentation is complete to create the bubbles in the ancestral method.

'22 'Los Arroyuelos' Garnacha $30 →
Their “village wine” is from seven organically-farmed, 70+ year old vineyards in the villages of Villanuenva, Navatalgordo and Burgohondo.

'21 'Pelito Lindo' Garnacha $75 →
A beautiful ode to Grenache-on-sand, from two plots of 80+ year old vineyards totaling about 0.45 ha in Villanueva de Avila. Done completely whole cluster. Richly layered with red fruits and rose.

'22 'Las Animas' Garnacha $65 →
A perfumed mix of three high elevation sites on granite. Unlike the the Pelito Lindo, the wine is completely destemmed.

'22 'La Coronela' Tinta Fina, Ribera del Duero $55 →
The one wine not from Gredos is from a 70 year old, 0.8 hectare, own-rooted vineyard (Viña Corderilla) in Barbara’s home town of Roa de Duero. Dark, brooding wine shows the famous gravel and chalk soils of Duero, and a true labor of love to keep this family plot alive.
