Best (New!) $20 Red, White and Rosé
08/14/24
A new producer to hit our shelves is the source for three $20 bottles that speak waaay beyond their price point. Details below!
The wines are from Fattoria San Lorenzo, a biodynamic (and certified organic) family estate with a bit of vertical integration over three generations: from grandfather (and master cooper) Enrico Crognaletti, to his son (and careful viticulturalist) Gino, to his grandson Natalino. Now, Natalino – with a great big personality and his own young family – is making finely-tuned classic Marche wine.

San Lorenzo is their hamlet in the commune Montecarotto, in Marche’s coastal Ancona province nestled between the foothills of the Apennine mountains and the Adriatic sea. Actually, it’s not far from the incredible Verdicchio producers we recently highlighted, another sign that Marche is a place for extreme value in quality wine.
For $20, these bottles are hard to beat. Everything is hand-farmed, with native yeast fermentations and aging in concrete:
'VIGNA DI GINO' is Bianco from 100% Verdicchio. It's crisp but textured, a little nutty and savory. Exactly what you want from a bottle of quality Marche Verdicchio. SHOP IT
'DI VERA' is Rosato from a blend of Montepulciano, Sangiovese and the local Lacrima variety. It's fresh and mineral, perfect fodder for end-of-summer salads and park hangs. SHOP IT
'DI GINO' is Rosso from Montepulciano and Sangiovese. It's big but soft, with gentle tannins and red fruit. Truly a well-rounded table wine style, it's great all days of the week (buttt especially with that Friday night pizza). SHOP IT
