Elodie Jaume's First Blanc

06/04/25
Continuing the theme of “firsts” from producers we love, a new release from Châteauneuf’s Élodie Jaume is here and it includes a very exciting addition: her first white wine.

If you’re catching up: Élodie is one of a suite of producers breathing new life into the Rhône’s most classic appellations, continuing the trends we’ve seen from boundary-breaking producers on the region’s fringes (Ardèche!).

Her wines are joyful but grounded, adding to the rich history of winemakers like Michelle Auberey-Laurent (Gramenon) who have elevated southern Rhône Grenache-and-friends through biodynamic farming, gentle approaches like maturation in concrete, and low (in some cases, no) sulfur – yes, even on her Châteauneuf-du-Pape bottling.

The work continues to expand; building on her original 5 hectares, Élodie has now taken over the 35 hectare family estate, notably the first woman to do so in five generations. We're excited to see a bump in the quantity of her production, and the wines remarkably just keep getting better and better.

The history is rich, the work is earnest, the wines are delicious. And, they’re here!

‘23 ‘Cabrières’ Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc

We were lucky to have a visit from Élodie in 2023; walking the aisles of our warehouse, one bottle in particular caught her excitement: icon Domaine Charvin’s CDP Blanc. Like the very best white wines from Châteauneuf, it’s made from Clairette Rosé – a red (honestly, pink) grape that normally sees rosé production en masse. When directly pressed, it has beautifully fresh structure.

We’ve since clung to Élodie's casual mention that she was *also* working on a Blanc from Clairette, hence our excitement here. She blends in Grenache Blanc for depth and balance, and the result is a textured, mineral, and overall extremely pleasing white wine.

70/30% Clairette/Grenache Blanc from avg. 40 year old vines, whole bunch pressed, fermented and aged in a mix of concrete and stainless steel. $70

2023 Élodie Jaume 'Coudoulet' Côtes du Rhone, $27

Lifted but tenaciously grippy and spicy, this is truly one of the most refined Côtes du Rhône we’ve ever had.

Biodynamic 60/30/10 Grenache/Mourvèdre/Syrah from avg. 35 year old vines on the edges of Châteauneuf. Cold (separate) ferments for 2-3 weeks followed by blending and aging 7 months, all in concrete. Unfined, unfiltered.

2022 Élodie Jaume 'Cabrières' Châteauneuf-du-Pape, $70

A satiny, no-sulfur Châteauneuf-du-Pape that's matured in concrete for delicate tannin backbone.

A beautiful take on classic CDP flavors, wrapped in a uniquely modern package. 100% biodynamic Grenache from 60 year old vines grown in sandy soils. 100% destemmed, fermented for a month and aged 18 months in ovoid concrete. Unfined, unfiltered.
