Iconic, Technicolor, Robinot 🌈

The newest release of Jean-Pierre Robinot's prismatic wine is here.

The wines of Domaine de L’Ange Vin are simply one expression of the artistic world of Jean-Pierre Robinot. An artist and photographer with an innate connection to nature, he found himself rubbing elbows with the natural wine icons of the late ‘80s (Lapierre! Chauvet!); eventually opening L’Ange Vin in the peak of Paris’ wine bar revolution and returning home to the Loire countryside to plant vines and make wine.

With 7ha in northern Jasniùres and Coteaux du Loir, it’s a dazzling lineup of classic Loire varieties expressed through extremely patient winemaking.

The fermentations are long (sometimes, years!); lingering in old oak in a matrix of deeply-dug, centuries-old cellars that Jean-Pierre acquired throughout the area.

The cuvĂ©es may vary a bit vintage to vintage, but the wines are always marked with an unmistakable energy – consistently some of the most natural, fullest expressions of Loire Valley fruit.

And yes, that’s his photography on the labels ;) Lineup below!

SPARKLING

Note, while most of this release is his estate wines, he does occasionally make négoce wines, labeled with 'L'Opera des Vins'

2023 Jean-Pierre Robinot L'Opera des Vins 'Les Années Folles', Loire, Vin de France $36
An absolutely wild and peppery rosé pet-nat of Pineau d'Aunis.

WHITE WINES

The white wines are exclusively Chenin Blanc, in the key of lush umami bombs.

2022 Jean-Pierre Robinot Les Vignes de l'Ange Vin 'Cuvée Bistrologie,' Loire, Vin de France $48
Chenin pressed straight to barrel, spends 15 months on the leess, very classic to his style.

2022 Jean-Pierre Robinot L'Opera des Vins 'Lumiere des Silex,' Loire, Vin de France $55
Old vine Chenin aged 15 months in barrel, pithy and spicy.

2022 Jean-Pierre Robinot Les Vignes de l'Ange 'Charme', Loire, Vin de France $55
A later pick of Chenin pressed straight to barrel, 15 months on the lees. Tense and citrusy.

2022 Jean-Pierre Robinot Les Vignes de l'Ange 'L'Iris,' Loire VDF $70
Some of his oldest Chenin vines, 90+ year old; pressed to barrel with 18 mons Ă©levage. Extremely tense and complex.

RED WINES

Jean-Pierre is known for playing a big part in the revival of Pineau d'Aunis; he does also work with dabs of Cab Franc and other Loire varietals, but today's lineup is entirely estate-grown Pineau.

2022 Jean-Pierre Robinot Les Vignes de l'Ange Vin 'Le Regard,' Loire, Vin de France $54
The earliest harvest Pineau d'Aunis, whole bunch fermented then pressed to barrel. Extra taut strawberry and pepper.

2022 Jean-Pierre Robinot, L'Ange des Vins 'LumiĂšre des Sens' Rouge $54
A later pick of Pineau d'Aunis, whole bunch fermented and then pressed to barrel. Filigreed texture, berry and spice.

2022 Jean-Pierre Robinot Les Vignes de l'Ange 'Nocturne', Loire, Vin de France $65
Pineau d'Aunis from 80 year old vines, spends a full year sur lie; a real homage to the peppery, bretty wines that first inspired him.
