Our Salnés Obsession

08/04/22
Nanclare y Prieto captures what we love about Salnés–Spain's foggy Galician coast, the spiritual homeland of Albariño.

With the tension, salinity and drive to rival the greatest white wines of the world (at ¼ of the price!), it's no surprise the top producers are some of the most sought after names in Spanish wine. Nanclares is at the top of that list.

This most recent drop includes their piercingly-good single parcel bottlings, a few with a touch of age that shows how beautifully these wines evolve.

This is essential drinking for lovers of deeply soulful, Atlantic whites we can't recommend highly enough.

We simply can't get enough ocean-kissed, salty Albariño. Read on for more of our essential Salnés drinking.

BODEGAS ALBAMAR

Natural wine darlings, Albamar makes wildly energetic wine by picking early, fermenting completely naturally and bottling with little to no sulfur. It doesn’t hurt that their winery is 160ft from the Atlantic–the essence of coastal Spain.

DO FERREIRO

An estate with 200+ year old vines and 175 tiny plots meticulously farmed by hand–this is pure old school Salnés. Nervy, incredibly crisp, and totally appropriate for some time in the cellar.

LAGAR DE COSTA

It's no surprise that Galicia would also be home to a class of energetic reds infused with the spirit of the sea. This vibrant old-vine Espadeiro ("Viva La Vid-A") is light on its feet with enough herbaceous depth for some chorizo or paella.
