PTG + More from Michel Lafarge

03/04/25

You know we love a nice PTG 💅

And – along with a release of the estate’s ‘22 Burgundies – we’ve just received a shop-favorite duo of Passetoutgrains from Domaine Michel Lafarge.

One of Burgundy’s original Demeter-certified biodynamic producers, the Volnay-based family estate (with centuries of winemaking legacy behind its name) is known for making fragrant, satiny wines. Intense, while still so light on their feet.

And like so many of our most treasured Burgundy producers, Lafarge treats the wines very seriously, and very similarly, across classifications. It’s why the entry-level bottlings punch well above their weight, made with the same methods and tools as the premier cru bottlings.

PASSETOUTGRAIN:

L'EXCEPTION: A perennial favorite around here, from a co-planted centenarian parcel of Gamay and Pinot on the edge of Meursault. Aged a full year and a half in old oak; it’s densely fruited, but still so refined. 2022 $37 / 750ml

ANTHOLOGIE: A special cuvée originally made to mark Michel’s 90th birthday in 2018, his son Frédéric (now at the helm after Michel’s passing) continues to make it. From the higher slopes of the parcel, it’s hand destemmed and aged in one barrel and one foudre. It’s an even more structured take on their PTG, and this wine is only bottled in (an appropriately celebratory) magnum. 2022 $95 / magnum

CURRENT RELEASE:

The full release was a touch delayed at port last year; finally here, the below includes everything from a super-value Bourgogne Rouge to their top wines from Beaune and Meursault. (Volnay bottlings sold immediately upon arrival!)

2022 Domaine Michel Lafarge Bourgogne Aligote 'Raisins Dorés,' Burgundy $36
From a small-clustered Aligoté Doré plot planted in 1937. Whole cluster pressed, aged several months in used barrel; intense, bright.

2022 Domaine Michel Lafarge Bourgogne Rouge, Burgundy $50
From a 50 year old single parcel 'Petit Pré' which borders the Volnay village classification (and, legend has it, may have previously been classified as Volnay proper). Aged 18 months in older barrel.

2022 Domaine Michel Lafarge Meursault, Cote de Beaune $90
From a 1h plot of Chardonnay planted in 1968, whole cluster pressed to older barrel and aged one year. In true Meursault form, it's layered and densely flavored; but with Lafarge's more delicate structure.

2022 Domaine Michel Lafarge Meursault Vendanges Sélectionnées, Cote de Beaune $95
From the older vines in the Meursault plot, whole cluster pressed to older barrel and aged one year.

2022 Domaine Michel Lafarge 'Clos des Aigrots' Rouge Beaune Premier Cru, France $120
From one of their two 1er cru sites in Beaune, with the oldest vines planted in the 1940s. Aged in mostly used barrel. Bright and pretty!

2022 Domaine Michel Lafarge 'Clos des Aigrots' Blanc Beaune Premier Cru $125
From one of their two 1er cru sites in Beaune, where the Chardonnay was planted in 1988. Whole cluster pressed, aged 15 months in mostly used barrel. Beautiful Beaune.
