2018 Fumey-Chatelain 'Deuxieme Mise' Savagnin

$54.99

The label of the 2018 Savagnin Deuxieme Mise didn't explain much, but the back label was quite informative and mentioned 48 months under a veil of flor yeasts (48 months sous voile) in 228-liter oak barrels. It also comes from different plots in different lieux-dits on marl soils. The clusters were pressed and the juice fermented with indigenous yeasts. In 2018, they did a lot of flor; it was a year of big crops, and they bottled half now and the rest will be kept for the Vin Jaune. This concentrated through evaporation to 14.5% alcohol (they did a first mise with 36 months). It's still fresh and citrusy with an integrated flor character, tasty and pungent but with freshness. It goes well with exotic food, Asian, Indian and whatever. 5,000 bottles were filled in February 2023. - Luis Gutierrez
