The 2020er Riesling (the reference to the name is, as usual for this Estate, only provided on the back label) with lot number 20R is a bone-dry wine made fruit picked in two steep parts of the Winninger Domgarten. It was fermented and aged on its gross and fine lees in oak without any intervention for 16 months before being bottled unfiltered and with minimal SO2 added (total SO2 is below 24 mg/l). Yellow-golden in color, this delivers an aromatic and intense nose of lozenge, white flowers (rose, jasmine, may tree), orange zest, fresh almond, smoke, mint, anise, and dill, all wrapped into a dash of volatile. The wine proves also quite aromatic on the palate, where juicy fruits are wrapped into quite herbal and zesty elements. The finish is still slightly sharp at this early stage and feels really bone-dry, tart, and hugely long. - Mosel Fine Wine

A Trip to Germany

In July I went to Germany for the first time, spending almost the entire trip in the Mosel – seeing places I’ve only read about, connecting familiar faces to their home turf and, celebrating 10 years of inspired work by importer vom Boden.

With a swath of German new arrivals landing, too, it felt like a good time to reflect on the 2022 vintage, share some takeaways from the trip and share details on our next in-person event.  - Chris
