This part of Piedmont, on its Eastern edge, is tiny. The ‘Colli Tortonesi’ has a lot of wine lovers excited but in total there are only 30 estates bottling wine here. Oltretorrente is one my favorites as they have some of the oldest vines in the region and farm them all organically. They only make two reds and this is one blends all the estate red varietals. And though its mainly barbera, the extra varietals add a darker more brooding character then you typically see in stand-alone barberas. A punchy, dark wine.
