2022 OVUM Aligote 'Elkton', Oregon
$35.99
Less than 30 miles from the Pacific, the Umpqua River bends into the town of Elkton.
The coastal mountain influence is an ideal climate for white wines of exceptional
acidity, and quiet aromats. Clay loam soils sit atop a thick slab of sandstone. This soil
series combined with the alpine river valley/dry summer microclimate to yield an
Aligote of measured ripeness, and deep transmission of place. 100 days of hangtime provided us 18.5 brix at harvest. Whole cluster pressed, settled in stainless tank overnight. Racked o heavy lees into Stockinger OVAL cask (10HL) where it will undergo native fermentation at natural temperatures - aged on circuital lees for 10 months. Full Malolactic fermentation. Double racked in stainless, the wine ages in tank before being bottled (unfined, unfiltered). Nothings is added except SO2.
2022 Ovum Aligote smells like clean ocean air. You can almost feel the cold waters of the Umpqua River flowing through the wine – in the nose and on the palate. Hints of blueberry and green fig are hidden in the salty depths if you smell close enough. This is texture, palate driven wine – where it is at once lighter than air, and richer than grass-fed butter all at the same time. It’s quiet demeanor has us leaning in to taste more, and the closer we get, the more there is to love.
