2024 Michael Candelario Tinto Canary Islands, Spain
$55.00
Michael is a mere 24 years young but is a proud 4th generation grape grower on the island. Insanely high elevation vines on the north western part of the island — 1200-1400 meters!!! Roughly equal parts Negramoll, Listán Negro and Listan Prieto from centenarian vines. Michael seems incredibly poised and driven.
Vines are 1200-1400m and some of the parcels are very steep. Days are hot, nights are cool, the vines are above the cloud like (~900m). Fermentation in stainless, with some whole bunches. Foot Trodden. Aged in barrel for 8 months. SO2 at bottling.
You can see the ocean from most of his vineyards, the famed Alisios trade winds bring salinity.
