2022 Henri Germain et Fils Meursault Clos des Mouches Rouge, Cote de Beaune, France
$120.00
This rare red Meursault is a monopole from a 0.5-hectare walled parcel planted in 1949 on clay-limestone just south of Santenots; it could legally be labeled Volnay, but Jean-François Germain bottles it as Meursault to honor the site. Fermentation is spontaneous, typically with a portion of whole clusters (around 50% in recent vintages) and about 15 days on skins, followed by 15–18 months of élevage in burgundy pièces with roughly 20% new oak. The 2022 is pure and finely textured—silken red cherry and wild berry with floral spice and a cool, limestone line—balanced, energetic, and classically Burgundian in its lift and finesse.
