2019 Vigneti Vecchio ‘Sciare Vive’ Etna Rosso, Sicily, Italy
$37.00
Crafted from 90% Nerello Mascalese co-fermented with 10% indigenous white varieties (Minnella, Inzolia, Carricante, Grecanico, Catarratto, Malvasia), this wine hails from pre-phylloxera vines aged 50–130 years, planted in fine volcanic sand at elevations of 600–1,200 meters on the northern slopes of Mount Etna.
The wine underwent a 12-day skin maceration, followed by malolactic fermentation in oak and 6 months of aging on the lees. This process imparts a complex profile characterized by red fruit aromas, balsamic notes, and a savory, fresh palate.
With an alcohol content of 13.5%, 'Sciare Vive' is far more elegant then your usual Nerello off of Etna, speaking w flavors of Nebbiolo, featuring flavors of tart red cherries, forest fruits, and earthy undertones.
