2023 Nelsen Barter El Dorado Cinsault, Sierra Foothills, California
$29.99
The second of only two wines that Matt Nelson makes. If the Merlot is a love letter to his nephew, the Cinsault is one to his long time girlfriend, whose favorite wine is Turley's Betchold Cinsault. Betchold fruit was an impossible get so what followed was a four year search until Katie Rouse from Birdhorse turned Matt onto the fruit from El Dorado. The 2023 is the first vintage of this wine.
The winemaking is straightforward, 50% whole cluster with 1 week maceration before pressing off for 9 months in neutral barrel.
