1988 Biondi Santi Tenuta Greppo Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Tuscany, Italy
$395.00
The 1988 vintage holds particular significance for Biondi‑Santi—it marks the centennial anniversary of the estate’s first modern Brunello, produced by Ferruccio Biondi‑Santi in 1888. While not a Riserva, this Annata bottling embodies the Greppo style: restraint, longevity, and a transparency that favors tension over weight.
Made from the proprietary BBS11 clone of Sangiovese Grosso grown on the estate’s high-altitude vineyards, the wine was fermented with native yeasts and aged for about three years in large Slavonian oak casks. Bottled with no flash or fanfare, it has rested in ideal conditions for decades.
Now fully mature, the 1988 shows its pedigree: dried cherry and rose petal, cedar, dusty earth, and fine leather—all delivered with Biondi‑Santi’s signature lifted structure and freshness. A historic bottling from the founding estate of Brunello, released in the hundredth year since its origin.
