Klüsserath is the neighboring village just down river from the estate's prime holdings in Thörnich. It is one of the largest contiguous vineyard sites/hillsides along the Mosel, as such there is a local colloquial saying "so lang wie Clüsserath" or "as long as Klüsserath". You'll note the two spellings which are used interchangeably, but Ludes and most more modern usage is with the "K". The hillside is a bit warmer than Thörnich, as it does not have the same two side valleys running on either side, which bring in cooler air and make the hill as cool as Thörnich (notable on the map, below is the break of the valley which signals the end of Klusserath and beginning of Thörnich.)

Brüderschaft is the specific site - above the filet portion, thus the highest elevation, surrounded by the forest on top and which experiences the most winds rushing down from the plateau at the top to the Mosel. 1999 was a warmer vintage - but yielded good fruit of decent quantities and thus the estate, at the time helmed by Hermann Ludes (Julian, the current winemaker and third generation's uncle) decided to make a Kabinett Trocken from this warmer site (amongst their holdings). This is also one of the last vintages that the estate bottled under cork - making the full transition to stelvin (screwtop) in 2003. - vom Boden
