2019 Elio Sandri (Cascina Disa) 'Perno' Barolo DOCG, Italy
$128.00
Sandri’s Barolo “Perno,” named after its Monforte d’Alba cru of origin, blends vines from throughout the property—primarily eastern-exposed Nebbiolo plantings from 25 to 55 years of age, situated between 300 and 350 meters of altitude, in soils of grayish loam shot through with veins of sand and blue marl. Elio allows the character of the vintage to determine the aging regimen; in the case of the 2019, a long and relatively cool season yielded wines of classic structure, and the Barolo “Perno” subsequently spent a lengthy 44 months harmonizing in botti before bottling. Refined, chiseled, and charmingly austere at this stage of its development, this is an achingly traditional Barolo suffused with evocative notes of soil and mineral.
