For over 40 years, John Siletto and his family have been organically farming several unique sites and varietals in San Benito County. Planted on a gravelly alluvial fan of Pleasanton loam, 49-year-old Wente Clone Chardonnay on the rootstock AXR-1 remains firmly planted having survived phylloxera that swept through the California wine industry 30 years ago. The Chardonnay was our last pick of the 2022 and was hand harvested on the August 18th. The wine was gently whole cluster pressed, oxidatively handled and fermented in a large format neutral French oak barrel. The wine was assembled and hand bottled without fining or filtration to reach 5 bars of atmospheric pressure on March 1st, 2023. The wine was left to age in bottle for 18 months before being hand riddled and disgorged without sulfur or dosage.
