2023 Barbichette, Pompette, Seneca Lake, New York
$29.99
Vilification: Whole cluster pressing and fermented in a combination of stainless and neutral barrels. Élevage in neutral oak barrels until being bottled in march of 2024.
Liquid sunshine. We’d like to formally nominate this as THE park wine of the summer. Our first “proper” rosé, pompette is a direct-press of pinot noir with unfettered notes of grapefruit, bitter orange, and strawberry leaves. It’s effervescent and zippy, with buzzy youthful energy — reminiscent of sour straws and Jolly Ranchers. While it gives off the structure and brightness of an orange wine, this rosé was made with pressing freshly picked Pinot Noir, on top of just pressed macerated Pinot Noir skins.
And frankly, it’ll make your front stoop feel tropical.
