2012 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo DOCG, Piedmont, Italy
$425.00
A classic blend of the estate’s four historic crus—Cannubi, San Lorenzo, Rué, and Rocche di La Morra—fermented together in keeping with Maria Teresa Mascarello’s unwavering traditionalism. Long maceration and spontaneous fermentation in cement, followed by extended aging in large neutral botti, shape a wine of finesse over force in this elegant, early-drinking vintage. The 2012 opens with red cherry, rose petal, anise, and orange peel, underpinned by fine, talc-like tannins and a lifted, limestone-driven mineral thread. Air brings savory depth and subtle tar. A beautifully transparent Mascarello—already expressive yet with the architecture to age gracefully.
