A specific parcel of vines called Vigna Sughera grow in sandstone soils and are kept at low yields for the Casa di Colombo wine. Grapes are handpicked in mid-October to ensure top ripeness and health. Every step of the winemaking is carefully planned, from the handpicked and sorted grapes to 12 months aging in French oak barrels. The wine is produced in consultation with renowned consultant StĂ©phane Derenoncourt (dubbed the “world’s hottest winemaker” by Wine Spectator). A bright ruby color opens to delicate notes of red berries, a charming tannic presence and hints of spices lingering in the finish.

The first half of the year was cooler and drier than average, creating a slight delay in the vines’ vegetation cycle compared to previous years, at a pace similar to the great 1980s vintages.
The summer temperatures showed an even high level without peaks or heavy rain, and were followed by good weather in September with considerable night-day temperature variation, resulting in grapes with perfectly ripe phenolics. The Sangiovese from the sandy soil was picked between the 8th and 11th of October
