2020 Tentenublo Rioja “Custero” Tinto DOC, Spain

$26.99

Custero is a new addition to the Tentenublo lineup, made in the old style of Viñaspre wines! A fabulous blend of Garnacha, Tempranillo, Viura, Malvasía, Calagraño, Garnacha Gris, Graciano, Monastrell, Malvasía Riojana from 1.5 hectares of young, head-trained vines (4-7 years old) that Roberto planted and grafted in four vineyards on calcareous marls and sandstone soils at 550-700 meters altitude: Pieza Naya, Castillejo, Quemada, Entrada. All grapes were co-fermented with native yeasts with 100% whole clusters in a large open vat, in the traditional winemaking method of Rioja. After a brief 12 days of maceration with gentle punchdowns, the wine was pressed then aged in a mix of second-use 500L French barrels and concrete tank for 9 months. It was then blended in concrete tank, where the finished wine harmonizes for two months before bottling with a light filtration.
