2021 Gallois Bouché "Rouge Garage" Coteaux Champenois Rouge
$150.00
Guillaume Gallois’ Coteaux Champenois rouge bottling is made from those thirty year-old pinot noir vines in Vertus that his family has retained in the ocean of chardonnay that is the Côte des Blancs. In the 2021 vintage, Guillaume only produced a single cask of his still red wine, which he made with one hundred percent whole clusters. The wine is given a five day “cold soak” prior to fermentation and allowed five months of aging in five year-old Burgundy barrels. The 2021 version comes in at an even twelve percent alcohol and offers up a lovely nose of black raspberries, black cherries, spiced meats, a hint of fruitcake, a fine base of chalky soil, woodsmoke and a gentle framing of cedary oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and tangy, with a lovely core of fruit, fine soil signature and grip, moderate tannins and a long, beautifully balanced and complex finish. This is excellent Coteaux Champenois, but it could do with a handful of years in the cellar to soften up its tannin properly! 2033-2065. ( From John Gilman’s, “A View from the Cellar”)

Welcoming Champagne Gallois-Bouché

Unafraid of varietal choice, wood, or dosage, there’s a quiet confidence here that points to the young winemaker moving this family estate to the forefront.
