2022 Dona Berta Reserva Curtimenta Rabigato Reserva Douro, Portugal
$33.99
Exclusively Rabigato grapes, from vines located at a high altitude – around 500 m
– which allows for slow maturation and, therefore, obtaining balanced and fragrant
grapes.
The year 2022 was one of the hottest and least rainy in the last 20 years in Douro and was
also the year in which the vines had least foliage (smallest Leaf Exposed Surface) in the
last nine years. The plants did not return as they deviated and had fewer leaves and many
dry leaves. The same underdevelopment justifies the recording of the smalletst berries from the last 20 years – only the 2005 berries come close to the “peas” of 2022. And in the
unirrigated vineyards the grape berries were even smaller than the fields that are irrigate.
Small, but resistant – and proof of this was this Curtimenta that we produce.
Crushing the grapes with total destemming and without using sulfites, given the
unpolluted health of the grapes. Fermentation at about 25 0C for eight days, as if it
were a red wine, with pumping over with aeration twice a day. After fermentation
and clarification, part of the wine was aged in oak barrels for ten months. Bottling
was done after light fining and fine filtration.
