The “Gackes Oben” is sourced from a prime, central parcel of the Ritsch, above the “Gackes,” which, you might imagine, is yet another word in the Mosel dialect for slate. The parcel is, literally, above a small wall of slate. These are the so called “younger” vines of 70 years old, mostly grafted and in the highest elevation of the vineyard at 220m where it is very windy, but also gets very direct sun.
Welcome to the cooler part of the Ritsch. Gorgeous light style of wine that is built around the acid. Here the Kabinett is more green acid driven and featherweight than the Gackes Untes. 56g of residual sugar and 10.6g of acid. -VB
