According to Patrick, “the scope was a garden of eden on volcanics. Symbols of the green place in which we live and the rich volcanic soils.”

Site(s): Limestone Coast vineyards in Mount Gambier, Coonawarra and Wrattonbully

Vintage notes: The 2024 vintage was shaped by a warm, dry El Niño pattern, bringing early budburst and a compact harvest across the Limestone Coast. Chardonnay thrived in the region’s varied sites, yielding pristine fruit with both concentration and freshness. The resulting wines balance depth and vibrancy, with fine acidity and clarity of fruit expression that highlight the regional diversity.

Vineyard notes: These Limestone Coast vineyards are characterized by a shallow volcanic topsoil overlaying subsoils of limestone and basalt. This region, the third largest volcanic plain on Earth, is home to around 400 dormant volcanoes. Having spent much of his childhood in this extraordinary landscape, Patrick is excited to share this sophisticated Australian chardonnay - a true testament to the unique terroir and heritage that have shaped his winemaking journey and the exceptional 2024 vintage.

Winemaking: The fruit is whole cluster crushed, pressed then drained off into tank for settling. Primary fermentation takes place in barrique and tank with approximately 25% new oak used.

ABV: 13.7%

Tasting notes: A nuanced and subtle chardonnay that presents place more than any particular winemaking slant. The nose is an understated mix of toasted wattleseed, white peach, finger lime, and lemon aspen (a spongey and floral native citrus). Delicate and intricately-knit palate, persistent and balanced acid, with pleasantly plump fruit weight. Long lines and a hint of smoky oak.
