A friendly Grüner we ♡
A BOTTLE WE LOVE
Weingut Jäger's 'Steinfeder' Grüner is a lively bottle rarely seen stateside, from one of Wachau's best producers.
WHAT'S IN THE BOTTLE:
Organic Grüner Veltliner done in a style rarely seen outside of Austria: Steinfeder. Typically the first pick of the season, it's the liveliest and easiest-drinking category of Grüner. Refreshingly done in tank and dry-but-low-ABV, it's so satisfying that Austrians typically get their fill with not much left over for export.
It's one of the great refreshments in wine, especially in the hands of a producer like Wachau's iconic Weingut Jäger. In southern Wachau where trellised vineyards wind along the serene Danube, they're a 5th generation estate that packs some of the area's best vineyard sites into their tiny five hectares. Truly, a reference point for quality wine in Wachau – at an incredibly accessible price point.
WHY WE DIG IT:
It's laid back, which is exactly what we're craving after the holiday rush. A little mineral, a little spicy, and even a little creamy from the softer '23 vintage; it's a great way to kick back.
HOW WE'RE DRINKING IT:
We'd love a cozy, nourishing bowl of ramen here.
