2021 Mixtura Blue Tinto (Mencia), Castilla y Leon, Spain
$75.00
100% Mencía from a 60-year-old plot in Cacabelos, rooted in pebbly, iron-rich clay. Fermented with native yeasts and whole bunches in small neutral barrels, then aged for a year in a large Austrian oak foudre from Stockinger. Just 3,319 bottles made—and easily one of the most refined, quietly powerful expressions of Mencía we’ve tasted from Bierzo.

Beyond Ribeiro
Two new producers – Mixtura and Augalevada – both call Ribeiro home. But their transformative work reaches far beyond the appellation. Stylistically, the wines nod to Jura (with playful use of flor) and Burgundy, offering both elegance and polish. More literally, their sourcing spans the region: to the Galician coast (Salnés!) and into Portugal.
