Our friend Giancarlo Luiggi of Ripe Wine Imports is joining us to discuss the vast range of climates, terrains, and varietals that exist in this corridor between the Pacific Ocean and Andes Mountains.
Chile has a unique and storied winemaking tradition: grape vines were first planted in southern Chile close to 500 years ago by Spanish priests to make sacramental wine. This interactive class will use Chilean wines as a jumping off point to explore basic approaches to tasting wine. We will experience wines from a variety of different regions/climates in Chile, consider the effects different wine-making techniques produce and discover language we can use to describe our preferences in wine. This class is appropriate for all levels of wine enthusiasts!

Your Host
Giancarlo Luiggi began his career in wine in the late 90’s (as an undergrad Philosophy student at NYU and Afrobeat musician) and for nearly 20 years worked in some of the most acclaimed retail wine shops in NYC: the original Union Square Wines, the first Uva Wines, Wine Therapy, and Brooklyn Wine Exchange, among a handful of others. His career coincided in the early aughts with the rise in popularity of natural wines in Brooklyn. He currently works for RIPE Wine Imports, a portfolio of family-owned wineries he characterizes as natural wines, classically styled.
