2019 Domaine Capmartin, Madiran 'Cuvée Instant', Southwest France
$22.99
Guy Capmartin decided to leave his family’s winery (Domaine Barrejat) and establish his own legacy in Southwestern France. Working out of the former Convent of Maumusson-Laguian, Guy committed himself to working with old-vine Tannat, eventually producing his first cuvée in 1987. Guy became investing in exploring the boundaries of his farming practices, finding inspiration in enhanced biodiversity and permaculture. The domaine received AB certification in 2013, and has not looked back since. Shortly after receiving cerification Guy’s son Simon took control over the estate and has remained steadfast in his father’s commitment to organic and biodynamic farming. Generally, fermentations are carried out in large open-top 70hL concrete tanks; instead of traditional pump-overs, Simon instead punches-down (pigeages) to preserve the wine’s nuanced, delicate aromas. After fermentation, the wines are moved and proceed to age in old 500L wood barrels until bottling.
