From the steep, wind-brushed upper slope south of Nuits—thin limestone–marl over hard rock—Vaucrains is the domaine’s most sinewy, mineral premier cru. The 2018 was hand-harvested and largely destemmed, then fermented with native yeasts in vat with gentle daily pump overs and a light touch of pigeage to keep the tannins fine; élevage followed for roughly 18 months in barrels with a discreet share of new oak. The wine is deep and structured yet impeccably composed—black cherry and cassis with violet, graphite, and a cool, stony line—its firm, powder-fine tannins and long, savory finish marking a powerful vintage built to age.
