2019 Swick Wines 'Palhete' Columbia Valley, USA
“Palhete” is the local (Portuguese) term for a wine that is made in a farmer's style, by blending red and white grapes to create a low-alcohol beverage to drink during the day. As the “Avós” would tell you...there certainly was no bottled water, very little soda or beer readily available back in the days, and the natural water sources were unreliable, so the Palhete wines provided the only trustworthy hydration at the time. Now we fast forward, and this particular “Palhete” from Mr. Joe Swick is blended from Verdelho and Graciano. The alcoholic content is about 11-12%, so admittedly not as low as the old-timey version (these were usually between 4-6% alc.), but extremely crushable nonetheless! Please consume chilled and enjoy!
