Grapes: A field blend of nearly 20 varieties, predominantly Prieto Picudo, Juan Garcia, Babosa Negro, and Touriga National.
Vineyard: 0.2 hectare parcel on a rolling plateau in the northeast corner of the farm exposed to wind and western sun.
Winemaker’s note: “The darkest and most powerful wine on our farm. The field is planted to a set of rare and exotic Spanish and Portuguese cultivars. We planted this parcel with the aim of making deep, concentrated red that could compete with wines from warmer climates on concentration but take advantage of the enhanced perfume and lift from our cool, Alpine valley. The 17,18 and 19 are all quite exciting to drink right now, but 2021 takes the wine up a notch in terms of refinement.”
