If there is a red grape more expressive in its youth than Valdiguié, we've yet to meet it. It's so many vibrant, dark fruits: blueberrry, black currant, blue rasberry, all tempered by a base note of ancho chili powder. This sweetness of fruit is balanced by a vibrant, mouth watering acidity and a stemmy grip on the palate, giving a sense of concentration and density to this lively wine.

The Vineyard

The Suisun Valley sits just south and east of the famous Napa Valley, at the base of the Vaca Mountain Range.  Back Road Vineyard, where our Valdiguié lives, sits at the north end of the valley on Brentwood clay-loam soils, part of the large alluvial fan the valley rests on. Planted in the 1980s, these 40 year-old vines are farmed organically and produce bodacious bunches of juicy, red grapes.

The Wine
Grapes were harvested in early September and split into three separate fermentations at the winery. This included a 40% whole cluster fermentation, a 100% whole cluster fermentation, and an all-destemmed anaerobic baggie fermentation. Grapes fermented for 16 days before all fermentations were drained and pressed separately. Wines were then transferred to a mixture of neutral puncheons and barrels and allowed to complete secondary fermentation and age on their lees for 6 months before bottling.
