2022 Thierry Allemand Cornas Reynard Rhone, France
$425.00
From the steep, south/south-east-facing granite slopes of the revered Reynard lieu-dit, the 2022 is made from 100% Syrah planted on old vines (many over 80 yrs) planted in decomposed granite bedrock.
Fermented whole-cluster (with 100% stems intact) w/ their native yeasts, starting with gentle carbonic maceration before a handful of punch-downs. The wine is aged ~24 months in used oak barriques and large foudres (no new oak), bottled unfined and unfiltered with very low sulfur. In the glass the 2022 is striking: dense yet refined, layered black and blue fruit, violet, graphite and pepper, all framed by its signagture minerality. One of the benchmark wines of the vintage.
