2023 Domaine Michel Lafarge Pitures, Volnay Premier Cru, France 1.5L Magnum

From old-vine parcels in the stony, mid-slope Pitures climat on very shallow limestone with thin brown clay; the domaine farms biodynamically and harvests by hand. Grapes are rigorously sorted, with a measured share of whole clusters used when stems are perfectly ripe, then fermented with indigenous yeasts in open vats with gentle extraction. Élevage runs 14–18 months in older 228-L pièces with no new oak, minimal racking, and SO₂ added only after malolactic; bottling is done without fining and with only a light filtration if needed. Magnum format is chosen for slower evolution and extended cellar life.
