2023 Weingut Leo Alzinger Loibenberg Riesling Smaragd, Wachau, Austria
$65.00
Loibenberg is Wachau’s suntrap - steep, south-facing terraces that soak up the heat, balanced by cool air rolling in from the north. It’s this push and pull that gives Alzinger’s Riesling its tension: ripe yet precise, concentrated yet finessed.
The vines here dig into barren, primary rock soils, which shape a Riesling of structure and depth. Spontaneously fermented and aged mostly in steel with a whisper of neutral Austrian oak, the wine is layered and textural—tropical-tinged but never heavy, juicy yet taut. A perfect reflection of its site, full of energy and unmistakably Wachau.
