2024 Elio Sandri (Cascina Disa) Barbera d'Alba Superiore, Piedmont, Italy

Elio re-planted a Nebbiolo vineyard with 1,200 Barbera vines in 1996, in addition to 700 vines planted in 1945 on the Surì Disa hill, as he felt the terroir suited Barbera better. This wine is aged for eight months in Slavonian oak barrels, and after bottling at least for another six months before release. The final Barbera d'Alba Superiore offers a very intense colour, and elegant aromas of blackcurrant and spicy dark chocolate. It is a fresh wine, with the tannins to balance the fruitiness and give it weight and structure.
