Certified Biodynamic. This is GG’s first bottling of Bassi Albariño, coming from the terraced hillsides of the western slope. This block is part of the original 2001 plantings at Bassi.  2024 is also the first vintage Bassi was certified Demeter biodynamic in farming practices.  This vintage, we experienced light yields throughout the SLO Coast, resulting in concentrated wines.  A seasonal Labor Day heat wave occurred the first week of September, dramatically pushing the Albarino through veraison - sugar levels jumped from 18 to 22° Brix in a single day. We picked the Albarino the Sunday after the heat, as this weather event produced golden, sun-exposed berries on the outside of the clusters, and tart, shaded berries on the cluster interior.  This kind of uneven ripening can often lend to an "over-under" of ripeness and freshness, a little lemonade from lemons... Once the grapes were pressed, the juice was collected from the press pan and transferred to neutral barrels for native primary and secondary fermentation. The wine aged on lees for 10 months and then was racked for the first time to blend + bottle, without fining or filtration.  Minimal sulfur was used at bottling to capture the energy of the wine.
