Five Oaks vineyard is a 1-acre site situated in the heart of Santa Ynez Valley that we began
farming in 2024. This vineyard is planted entirely to Sangiovese in very rocky soils, and is
nestled between five heritage oak trees. We are farming using regenerative organic practices at Five Oaks, including no-tillage, cover cropping, and the application of compost throughout the vineyard. It is a delight to spend time in this small oasis and we are excited to see how this site develops over the coming years!
2024 marked our first vintage farming this site and also our first time producing Sangiovese! Assuch, we decided to ferment 3 separate lots using varying methods to give ourselves a widerunderstanding of the site and varietal.
The resulting wine is a blend of three different fermentations: carbonic, fully destemmed
grapes, and one lot with 30% whole clusters. Each was aged separately in neutral 500L
puncheons then blended before bottling. Minimal sulfur was added for stability before bottling without fining or filtration.
Our Sangiovese is bright and graceful, yet delightfully rustic and true to varietal—balancing
classic Sangiovese dustiness with the gentle touch of Santa Ynez Valley sunshine. Dried roses and leather lift from the glass while tart red cherry, and hints of oregano and forest floor coat the palate. Playfully punchy, yet restrained tannins keep you going back for more.
This is pizza wine! Give this one a decant for maximum enjoyment.
