2024 Tenuta Giustini Avoglia Primitivo Puglia IGT Italy

$19.99

From estate vineyards near the Gulf of Taranto, the Avoglia Primitivo comes from sandy-clay soils shot through with limestone and ancient marine fossils—terrain that gives the grape’s natural richness a saline, vertical edge. The vines, now around 12–15 years old, face the alternating Scirocco and Tramontana winds that cool the clusters and slow ripening, allowing full phenolic maturity without loss of freshness. Harvested by hand in late September and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel with gentle maceration, the wine captures both the warmth and tension of its coastal terroir. It shows a deep ruby-garnet color and aromas of black cherry, sun-dried plum, anise, and tobacco leaf, lifted by notes of wild herbs and iron. The palate is broad yet taut, with supple tannins and a discreet mineral thread that carries through a long, savory finish. As the collection’s name implies—Avoglia, meaning “yes, a lot!”—this wine channels the joy and generosity of Puglia while retaining balance and clarity. Its ripe fruit and maritime lift make it a striking partner for slow-braised lamb shoulder with olive tapenade and roasted root vegetables, where texture, depth, and salinity find perfect equilibrium. Tenuta Giustini is a fourth-generation, family-run estate based in San Giorgio Ionico, within the heart of the Primitivo di Manduria DOC in southern Puglia.
