Jules Brochet 'Les Survivants' Brut, Champagne, France (2021)

Entirely derived from the 2021 vintage, Jules Brochet’s NV Les Survivants (2021) is a one-off cuvée comprising the entirety of the estate’s crop, pressed together. Disgorged without dosage, it wafts from the glass with aromas of baking spices, lemon confit, tangerine zest and toasted nuts. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, enveloping and ample and structured around a racy spine of acidity. The finish is long, perfumed and persistent. This is a notably fleshy Champagne—more so than one might expect from the 2021 vintage. Seven grams of residual sugar lends it a more demonstrative style than his other bottlings. - RP
