2024 Fletcher Wines Chardonnay Langhe, Italy

2024 Fletcher Wines Chardonnay Langhe, Italy

$46.00

Fletcher’s Langhe Chardonnay, first produced in 2015, comes from the cool north-facing slope of the Cars cru in Barbaresco—an atypical but striking terroir for the variety, yielding only around 2,000 bottles each year. The exposure slows ripening, preserving tension and aromatic precision, while the marl soils lend depth and mineral drive. Dave harvests in two passes: the first pick delivers citrus zest and bright acidity, while the later pick builds palate volume and layers of stone fruit, melon, and pear. Grapes are whole bunch pressed, with juice naturally settled before racking to French barriques, 30% new, where fermentation occurs spontaneously. Depending on the year, malolactic conversion may be allowed to soften edges, but the wine always remains on its lees for 8 months without bâtonnage, gaining subtle texture without weight. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, the result is a Chardonnay of remarkable restraint: saline and mineral-focused, with oak seamlessly integrated as a frame rather than a flavor, allowing the Barbaresco terroir to show through in clarity and length.
