2024 Vollenweider 'Im Schöttel' Riesling Goldgrube Trocken, Mosel, Germany

This is a new wine from an awesome parcel Moritz and VInzent acquired in 2024; this is the first vintage of this wine. The "im Schöttel" parcel lies at a higher elevation than Unterste Jonpfad and is oriented more towards the southwest. The vineyard sits directly beneath a towering rock face, which both defines the landscape and shapes its character. The name “Im Schöttel” derives from the German word Schüttung—meaning scree or debris—referring to the constant movement of stones that have broken away from the massive cliffs above and settled into the vineyard over time. In contrast to Unterste Jonpfad, this is a markedly drier and more sun-exposed site. The soil is extremely stony, dominated by raw grey slate, and the vineyard benefits from extended hours of sunlight. Even after sunset, the rock wall continues to radiate the heat it has absorbed during the day, creating a warm, sheltered microclimate.
This is a *serious* wine; saline, generous, and dense, with a darker, more powerful mineral core. Damn this is so good - precise and cool-climate.
